Design for the project "diamond splinters - osna's queerstory" by artist Irène Mélix, as part of the annual theme "Romanticism" at the Kunsthalle Osnabrück. It is a 24-page supplement in the Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung, distributed to 40,000 households in the city, showcasing a diverse panorama of queer stories from Osnabrück. Mélix spent over a year collecting historical material and current voices from the city's queer community, capturing their grievances, desires, dreams, and history. The design of the "diamond splinters - osna's queerstory" project aimed to find a way to represent the various voices in their entirety while also expressing their diversity. The text was intentionally crafted without chapters or headings, presenting a fragmented yet carefully curated version of all the voices. The so-called "diamond splinters" interweave the text passages, adding depth and complexity. In addition to the abundance of texts, it was of great significance to highlight the gaps in queer history. Historical images, which shape history and capture past events, seamlessly intertwined with contemporary flyers and images of queer-influenced establishments and locations.
